Big Ten/ACC Challenge
Tipoff: 8 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum
Records: Penn State 4-1, Georgia Tech 5-1
Ed DeChellis is 35-58 in four seasons at Penn State and 140-151 in 11 seasons overall.
Paul Hewitt is 112-84 in seven seasons at Georgia Tech and 178-111 in 10 seasons overall.
Series: Penn State leads the series 1-0.
TV: ESPN U. Mike Gleason (play-by-play), and Larry Conley and Drew Barry (color).
Radio: Steve Jones (play-by-play) and Dick Jerardi (color) will call the game for the Penn State Sports Network.
Last Time Out: Penn State beat St. Joe's (65-61) at the Jordan Center Saturday. Georgia Tech lost to UCLA (88-73) in the final of the Maui Invitational last Wednesday.
Next Up: Penn State plays host to Morgan State Saturday (4 p.m.).
Quickie Quiz: Who was Penn State's leading scorer the last (and only) time these two teams played?
DeChellis said he has no set plan for how much he will use Claxton, who saw his first game action of the season against St. Joe's after returning from a broken right hand. The junior was rusty offensively but had a game-saving blocked shot in the final seconds. Claxton will continue to wear a small cast on the hand.
Leading scorer Jamelle Cornley is struggling from the line for the Lions (18-35, 51.4 percent). The rest of the team is 57-71 (80.3 percent).
Something's Got to Give: The Yellow Jackets are averaging 88.3 points per game and one shot every 39 seconds. Penn State is allowing 56.4 points per game and opponents to take one shot every 48 seconds.
Penn State has lost four straight games in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
There are 11 games in the challenge this year. This is one of only two (Iowa at Virginia Tech is the other) not available on ESPN or ESPN2. So in six challenge appearances, PSU has landed on national TV exactly twice.
Quiz Answer: It was a trick question. Joe Crispin, Greg Grays and Pete Lisicky all scored 18 in an NIT quarterfinal win (75-70) at Georgia Tech in 1998. It was the third non-conference home loss ever (against 100 wins) for then Yellow Jacket coach Bobby Cremins.
FOS Prediction: Georgia Tech 74, Penn State 63
Comment: It is difficult to imagine the Lions scoring enough points to keep pace with the Yellow Jackets.
FOS Prediction Record: 4-1
