Ditto to Enroll Early

Gateway tight end prospect and Nittany Lion commit is heading to Penn State for the spring semester. He is the second Class of 2007 member who will enroll early, joining fellow WPIAL standout Nick Sukay. In fact, he is visiting PSU this weekend, along with Sukay.

The recruiting gossip we've heard recently is that Gateway High tight end Jon Ditto will make an official visit to Penn State in mid-January. Yet while that sounds plausible at first blush, don't count on it happening.

That's because there will be no need for the 6-foot-4, 221-pounder to take any kind of visit then. He'll already be enrolled at the university. Beyond that, Ditto is making his visit this weekend.

According to Gator coach Smith, Ditto is on track to graduate from high school early so he can enroll at Penn State in January. Ditto committed to the Lions last summer.

“He's been planning it since he committed in June,” Smith said Friday night. “It's just that nobody ever asked him about it.”

Ditto is the second known Class of 2007 commitment who will enroll at Penn State in January, joining Greensburg Central Catholic product Nick Sukay. Milford Academy offensive lineman J.B. Walton would like to enroll in January, as well, but he'll have to achieve a qualifying score on the SAT to do so.

Sukay is also on campus this weekend.

Ditto is also the second prospect to graduate early from Gateway to enroll at Penn State in January. Current cornerback Justin King did the same thing back in 2004.
