Marks Wins Fourth Title

Today marked the first of four Pennsylvania State Championship games played this week, matching Johs Marks' Southern Columbia (15-0) team against West Middlesex (15-0). With today's victory, Marks' Tiger team won a record fifth consecutive PIAA title.

Josh Marks has started through all four years of his high school career, and has added a fifth consecutive title to his team's trophy case, four of which he played starting roles for. The 56-14 victory today over West Middlesex also gave Southern Columbia their sixth state championship, tying the team with Berwick for the most overall titles in Pennsylvania.

A two-way standout throughout his high school career at Southern Columbia, Marks plays guard on the offensive line and tackle on the defensive side of the ball. In fact, he has started all 60 of Southern Columbia's games during the last four seasons. Today's win gave him a 21-0 high school career mark in playoff games.

Offensively this season, Marks has been instrumental to an offense that has gone 10-0 in the regular season and averaged 46 points per game. He helped pave the way for his team's rushing attack to roll up nearly 3200 yards and score 45 touchdowns.

That domination continued today as Southern Columbia rolled up a 36 point lead by halftime. This season, they have scored at least 35 points in every game played. Marks once again open up some major for the running game, helping Henry Hynoski roll up 126 yards and three touchdowns on the day.

Today's Class A championship game is the first of four played this weekend at Hersheypark Stadium. General McLane (12-2) of Edinboro and Pottsville (13-2) play in the Class AAA game scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.

Saturday's games match Tyrelle Pryor's Jeannette (14-1) team against Wilson Area (15-0) for the Class AA title at 1 p.m. and Upper. St. Clair (15-0) plays Bethlehem Liberty (14-1) for the Class AAA championship at 7 p.m. later that day.
