The 6-foot-2, 185-pound product of Susquehannock High attended every Penn State home game this past season, but all were unofficial visits. This weekend, Powell was able to get the official grand tour of campus with all the trimmings.
I already knew a lot about Penn State, Powell said. I came up this weekend with two things in mind: to talk to the coaches more and to talk to the Green kid.
Powell was well aware that four-star running back Broderick Green from Arkansas would be in attendance this weekend, and he intended to make him a friend and hopefully a teammate.
I talked to Broderick a lot, Powell said. I just talked to him about everything, about how Penn State football games are crazy and all that.
Powell also commented on whether he though Green could end up a Nittany Lion by signing day.
Yeah, I hope he comes to Penn State, Powell said. He is a cool guy and we could really use him over the next few years.
Powell also commented on some of the grand tour at Penn State.
We went to the basketball game on Saturday, Powell said. We also went to dinner that night at Beaver Stadium, which was pretty cool. Then I got a chance to just hang out with all the guys on Saturday night. Sunday we had breakfast at the Nittany Lion Inn, as well. Coach [Joe] Paterno was at the breakfast and the dinner the night before.
Paterno has been recovering from a broken leg, but Powell said he is getting around just fine these days.
He looked pretty good for having that injury, Powell said. I know he is still the same coach. He is a great guy to be around and every time I get a chance to be around him he is a blast.
Powell is anxious to arrive on campus full time.
I start school in the summer and I can't wait, Powell said.
