Nittany Lions Lose at Iowa

Penn State's difficult Big Ten season continued at Iowa Wednesday night, as the Nittany Lions fell apart in the second half in dropping a 79-63 decision to the Hawkeyes. The loss was Penn State's fifth straight and dropped its record to 10-9 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Penn State led for most of the first half but fell behind 28-27 on a Adam Haluska tip-in just before the break.

The game was tied 37-37 with 15:20 to go before Iowa (11-9, 3-3) began to heat up and the Lions faded badly. An 8-0 run, capped by Haluska's 3-pointer, gave the Hawkeyes a bit of breathing room and PSU never recovered.

The Big Ten's leading scorer, Haluska paced Iowa with 24 points, becoming the latest in a long line of perimeter players to hurt Penn State this year. The Hawkeyes made 27 of 52 shots from the field and 8 of 17 shots from the arc against the Nittany Lions' struggling zone defense.

Jamelle Cornley had a double-double (16 Points, 10 rebounds) to lead Penn State. Geary Claxton had 20 points and reserve center Milos Bogetic played his best offensive game of the conference season with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Penn State's point guards, starter Ben Luber and backup David Jackson, logged a combined 48 minutes but went a combined 0 of 6 from the field.

The win was Iowa's school record 12th-straight Big Ten home victory. The Nittany Lions, meanwhile, tumbled to 0-5 on the road this season.

Next up for PSU is a Saturday afternoon game at Minnesota.
