Okoli Anxious to Check Out Happy Valley

Virginia Beach, Va., defensive end Chimaeze Okoli has been picking up steam down the stretch of this recruiting season. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound product of Salem High has garnered offers from Michigan State, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Clemson. Okoli's high school has been a popular spot for coaches to visit this week and he will make a trip of his own this weekend.

“Coach [Frank] Beamer, Coach [Curt] Newsome, and Coach Bryan Stinespring from Virginia Tech were in to see me today,” Chimaeze Okoli said. “They just said how they really wanted me bad.

“Coach Larry Johnson from Penn State was down to visit today, as well,” Okoli said. “He talked to me a little bit about how much they wanted me and we talked about my upcoming visit. I am looking forward to visiting Penn State this weekend. I am expecting a real good visit and that is what they promised me.”

Okoli has four finalists — the aforementioned schools which have all offered — but says two programs are ahead of the pack.

“My top two are Penn State and Virginia Tech,” Okoli said.

Penn State received a verbal commitment this week from Delaware defensive end Devon Still. Will that have a bearing on Okoli's decision?

“His commitment will have no impact,” Okoli said. “I still like Penn State a lot. They send a lot of defensive linemen to the NFL, and they want me as a defensive end so I am going to take a look at them this weekend.”

Okoli burst onto the recruiting scene after a huge senior season in which he recorded 72 tackles, 15 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and one fumble returned for a touchdown.

Stay tuned for more this weekend as Okoli visits Penn State and begins winding down his recruiting process.
