Ryan plays middle linebacker for Berkeley High School in South Carolina. He also plays tight-end and utilizes his impressive size and strength help bolster an inexperienced offensive line.
He is being recruited by many top Division I programs to play middle linebacker. He still has approximately 11 scholarship offers in hand with others contemplating doing the same.
"Nebraska and Ohio State are closer to offering me," Ryan said.
"This month, I got calls from South Carolina, Clemson and South Carolina State
and my mom got one from Tennessee, but that coach never called me though."
Who are his favorites?
"I haven't really thought about it for a while because I've been concentrating on the football season, but I'd say USC, Florida, Nebraska, Miami, North Carolina State, Penn State and Ohio State. Those are the only ones I can think of right now."
All but Miami, Nebraska and Ohio State have offered. Distance to a prospective school does not matter to Ryan.
"This Saturday, I'm going up to Penn State to see them play Nebraska."
He will be heading up with the parents of Kinta Palmer, a redshirt freshman wide-receiver for the Nittany Lions who also happens to be Ryan's cousin.
"Kinta calls me all the time, just about every night. He's constantly talking about Penn State, telling me that he wants me to come up there with him and stuff like that."
Ryan also noted that his best friend, Jabari Levey of South Carolina, and Clemson wide-receiver J.J. McKelvey, who like Palmer are both Berkeley alumni, are also recruiting him to play with them.
The unofficial visit will be Brown's first trip to Happy Valley.
"I think we'll be driving up there. We're going to leave like 1:00 am Saturday morning. I'm going to be real tired. Right after my game Friday night, I'll shower and go to their house.
"The next week, I'm thinking about going to South Carolina to see them play Temple."
He has already begun planning his official visits, although he does not yet have any scheduled.
"I know for sure that I'm going to South Carolina and Florida and I'm thinking Nebraska too, but I don't know about the other two. I'm still thinking about those."
