O-Lineman Shugarts Sets the Record Straight

Offensive lineman J.B. Shugarts of Klein, Texas had a bit of a mix-up with his written scholarship offer from Penn State. Has the issue been settled? Check our update for details.

J.B. Shugarts, a 6-foot-7, 285-pounder from Klein High, now has more than 30 offers. And things have been squared away with the Nittany Lions.

“I actually have had an offer from Penn State for a while,” Shugarts said. “I got the offer a while ago, but I misread it. They contacted me recently and said that they had offered previously. I talked to them about it and they sent me another one recently.”

Shugarts has ties to Pennsylvania and has already been on Penn State’s campus.

“My dad is from DuBois,” Shugarts said. “I actually flew into State College airport last summer on a trip to see my grandparents. When we got in we went to see the Penn State campus and spoke with [assistant coaches] Jay Paterno and Bill Kenney. I didn’t get to meet Coach Joe Paterno, but I would like to.”

Shugarts will be looking to get a second chance at meeting the Penn State head coach on a return trip to the Keystone State.

“I will be coming back to Pennsylvania this summer again to visit family and I will definitely stop by Penn State to talk to the coaches,” Shugarts said.

Penn State is not on Shugarts’ list of top schools, but that could change when he visits later this summer.

“Right now my top schools are Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, USC and Michigan,” Shugarts said.
