Penn State defensive tackle Jay Alford is learning that you can go home again. The New York Giants picked the native of Orange, N.J., in the 2007 NFL Draft. The Giants play their home games in East Rutherford, N.J., a shot car ride from Alford's home.
Alford was taken with the 18th pick of the third round, the 81st overall selection in the draft. He was the third Nittany Lion taken.
Most draft experts figured he would be taken in the third or fourth rounds. Alford was the fifth defensive tackle selected in the draft.
Alford was a 41-game starter in his Penn State career and finished with 19.5 sacks. He led the Lions in QB drops with eight last season.
