Alexander Picks a School

Altoona, Pa., speedster A.J. Alexander had been very quiet in talking about a favorite in his recruitment this year. Suddenly, Alexander decided that he was growing tired of the whole process and he wanted to make his commitment. That commitment came Saturday night.

“I committed to Florida State,” Alexander said. “I called Coach Trickett and Coach Lilly last night to commit and I will talk to Coach (Jimbo) Fisher and Coach (Bobby) Bowden (Sunday and Monday).”

Alexander had a tough decision on his hands, but he had plenty of reasons for his decision.

“I just loved it down there,” Alexander said. “The coaches were all good down there and I talked with my family and we decided that it was the best situation for me.”

Alexander had narrowed his field to four schools.

“It was down to Florida State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Georgia,” Alexander said. “It was a hard decision.”

Alexander, who finished second in the 100 meters at the PIAA AAA championships earlier Saturday, feels a weight has been lifted off of his shoulders with his decision.

“I feel great right now,” Alexander said. “I know a lot of people around home will give me a hard time because they wanted me to go to Penn State. It was tough, but I just felt like Florida State was a better situation for me.”

Now Alexander turns to focus on his senior season at Altoona Area High.

“I will be playing running back mostly this season,” Alexander said. “I will still play quarterback and wide receiver in some packages. It should be a lot of fun. We have a pretty good team coming back this year.”
