Moye Good as Gold

Derek Moye, who has signed a letter of intent to play football at Penn State and will enroll at the University Park campus in early July, is anything but a one-trick pony. Over the weekend, he dominated the PIAA AA track and field championships held in Shippensburg.

A product of Rochester High, Derek Moye won the 200 meters in a time of 22.15. He also won the 400 meters in 48.04, more than a half second ahead of second-place finisher Gary Bush of Montoursville and a personal best.

Moye's strong showing helped Rochester finish fourth in the team standings.

"I'm happy," Moye told the Beaver County Times. "This is a good way to end my high school career."

Moye will play wide receiver with the Nittany Lions after primarily playing running back in high school. He is obviously extremely fast for his size (6-foot-5, 185), but may have to redshirt as a true freshman at Penn State in order to add a bit of bulk to his frame.

Moye will play in the Big 33 Classic in Hershey, Pa., June 16.
