Penn State Recruiting Chat Recap

With Penn State adding Michael Mauti and Mike Yancich to their Class of 2008 this week, the Nittany Lions are continuing their pursuit of prospects. Get an update on where PSU stands with a few targets.

A.J. Alexander: Despite pledging to Florida State, Alexander is still being actively recruited by Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Penn State in addition to his verbal pledge of Florida State.

Alexander spoke with Penn State coach Mike McQueary at the 7-on-7 camp at Penn State in mid-June and Coach McQueary asked him to come to a PSU game this fall. Alexander informed me that he will probably still attend the Penn State games against Notre Dame and Ohio State this year.

He will also likely take official visits to Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Florida State. Alexander still claims that he is solid with Florida State, but he wants to check out some other games to see if he gets a "feel" for another school at the game. He just wants to make sure that he didn't make a decision too early.

Deion Walker: Deion Walker did not make it up to Penn State for the senior camp this past week, but another Walker was in attendance.

Deion's father was up at Penn State working the camp with Walker's coach. Walker is getting ready to embark on his tour of colleges out west in July. Walker still claims no leader, but he should have a list by the time he gets all of his visits out of the way this summer.

Walker still plans on taking visits this fall and deciding by mid-season.

Dontavius Jackson: He spoke highly of Penn State and is no longshot. Expect an official for the Notre Dame game and a decision in October.

Darrell Scott: He may visit for the Notre Dame clash.

Michael Shaw: He should be visiting Penn State sometime this week, stay tuned.

Jordan Todman: He may receive an offer if his grades are in order. The staff likes him at running back but he could play defensive back. He is up to about 190 pounds and was impressive at camp.

Jonas Gray: He currently has MSU as the leader and did not visit Penn State.

Also, I just spoke with Scott Van Pelt of ESPN. He informed me that the College Gameday crew will be back in Happy Valley this year in week two against Notre Dame. Virginia Tech-LSU is probably the better game but they will be at Virginia Tech in week one, thus Penn State gets the call. I'd guess that will be a pretty big recruiting weekend....
