PSU Preseason Set to Kickoff

With August's arrival comes the kickoff of Penn State's preseason practices. Today, Monday, the Nittany Lions kickoff their quest to put the final touches on the 2007 edition of their squad. Get a rundown of the preseason practice schedule that kicks off Monday at 4 p.m. and who some practice observers will be focused on.

With months conditioning sets and drills under their belts it's not surprising that the Penn State football players are ready to get the season underway. In fact, the consensus seems to be that everyone is chomping at the bit to see some game-day action soon.

As one program observer told us in anticipation of starting preseason drills Monday, "There's a stir around the squad. [The players] have been talking about suiting up in pads and making some contact for weeks. There's a lot of anticipation to kick things off."

There is a particular buzz to see how some of the true freshmen look in drills. "I am anxious to see [Chris] Colasanti, [Nathan] Stupar and [Devon] Still in action," one observer said. "All three have made big impressions in the weight room, so seeing what they can do on the field should be interesting."

Another observer discussed who he will focus on saying, "This offensive line needs some depth, so I want see what guys like [Stefen] Wis[niewski], [Andrew] Szczerba, Devon Still and [Quinn] Barham bring. I'd toss in [Ako] Poti and [Nerraw] McCormack — [I'm] interested in what the summer has done for them."

Here are some important dates related to the coming preseason practice.

August 6: Preseason practice kicks off at 4 p.m.
August 11: PSU Media Day (tentatively slated for 10:30 a.m.)
August 11: Two-a-days begin**

The team is only allowed to have two-a-days every other day, so once two-a-days begin the typical week will look like the following:

Monday: two sessions
Tuesday: one session
Wednesday: two sessions
Thursday: one session
And so on.

**With Media Day recently scheduled for Saturday, August 11, the first two-a-day session could be rescheduled so that it is not a conflict.
