Big Recruiting Weekend on Tap

For the past several seasons Penn State has leveraged the electricity of a prime-time game in Beaver Stadium as a decision point for recruiting prospects. This year, Saturday's Notre Dame clash with serve as the introduction of Beaver Stadium to several key prospects in the Class of 2008. See which recruits are making the trip.

For the last several years Penn State has used Beaver Stadium's prime-time environment as a clear differentiator in the minds' of recruiting prospects. This approach has helped to land current Nittany Lions like Jared Odrick, Aaron Maybin, A.J. Wallace, Lou Eliades, Johnnie Troutman, Eric Latimore, J.B. Walton, Nathan Stupar and Derek Moye.

Aaron Maybin described the 2005 Ohio State game atmosphere when he was a recruit, saying, "When we got there the energy was evident right away. They took me, Antonio (Logan-El), and Jared (Odrick) up to the recruiting hall. We look out and there's 20,000 students screaming our names.

Jared Odrick was also at that game, saying, "It was the most ridiculous thing, Coach [Mike] McQueary took me, [Penn State verbal commitment Tom] McEowen, Antonio Logan-El and Aaron Maybin over to the student section when they were waiting to get in. He took us to the balcony and the whole student section all looked up and yelled all our names and yelled that they wanted us to come to Penn State."

The Beaver Stadium atmosphere can even impact a recruit to the point he adds PSU to his list of favorites. A.J. Wallace was one of those prospects. He was not heavily considering PSU until he attended the 2005 OSU clash, saying, "I really just went to watch a game. I went up with J.B. Walton, and I have to admit I became very interested. Penn State is now a school I am considering. The atmosphere was real crazy, those fans were hyped. The most impressive thing I saw was how the freshmen are making an impact there, that's a big factor for me."

As for the Notre Dame game this Saturday, Penn State is scheduled to have several prospects in attendance to experience the electricity of Beaver Stadium for themselves. Among the confirmed visitors so far are:

Jimmy Bennett
Deion Walker
A.J. Alexander
Mike Zordich (commitment)
Mike Mauti (commitment)
Brandon Beachum (commitment)

Vinston Painter is not planning on attending unless something changes with his schedule.

Keep in mind that some prospects have said they will be coming that are not on this list, however FOS is including only confirmed visitors to this list, so stay tuned as we add any other confirmed visitors. Among the other possible prospects visiting Happy Valley are Terrelle Pryor, Zach Kerr and D'Anton Lynn.
