OVERALL: Penn State seemed to be going through the motions in the first and fourth quarters. That won't work in the Big Ten.
OFFENSE: A balanced effort, with 191 yards on the ground and 202 through the air. But Anthony Morelli and company have yet to put an entire game together.
DEFENSE: Nobody expected this crew to NOT allow a touchdown all season. But the Nittany Lions got sloppy late in the game.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Again, some great efforts (kick-return man A.J. Wallace, punter Jeremy Boone). But spotty kick-return coverage and another missed field goal by Kevin Kelly are reasons for concern.
COACHING: We suppose a letdown was inevitable at some point, no matter how much Joe Paterno preached to his team about taking every opponent seriously.
INTANGIBLES: The Nittany Lions made plays when they had to.
OTHER GUYS: Yeah, the Bulls lost by 21. But we were impressed with their heart and never-say-die attitude. Nice job by Turner Gill and crew against a team with vastly superior talent.
OFFICIALS: Not much laundry being thrown around. Only three flags on the day.
CROWD: No way it was going to match last week's effort.
