Nittany Notes: Fine Tuning

Penn State wrapped up its Illinois preparations on Thursday with some late depth chart changes. See what adjustments the coaches made as they were focusing in on the Illini.

Penn State's last full-pad practice before this weekend's road trip to Illinois ended with a bang Thursday — literally. The Lions were nearing the completion of the session when lightning struck near their practice field, abruptly sending everyone heading for the safety of Lasch Building.

Line Changes

Thursday's session saw a bit of a change with the defensive line as Ollie Ogbu moved down to the second team and Chris Baker moved up to the first team with Jared Odrick. The second-team unit saw a heavy rotation between Ogbu, Phillip Taylor, Tom McEowen and Abe Koroma. Koroma returned to practice this week, but is "easing his way back into things."

In terms of Ogbu's demotion, "I am not sure if it is a motivational thing or what. He had a few issues with some drills," one observer said. "But emotions are so high I think the coaches just have a short tolerance for [mistakes] right now."

Passing Out

After taking a hard hit which had him take a break from late drills Wednesday, quarterback Anthony Morelli was back at the helm of the first team Thursday. Morelli has "had ups and downs," as one observer said. "It's not his performance against the scout team that's the issue," another observer explained.

Leavin' On a Jet Plane

Penn State is scheduled to depart from Lasch Building via bus for the University Park Airport around 3:15 p.m. Friday. The team is staying at the Holiday Inn at Urbana.
