Big Recruiting Chat

Cory James hosted another one of his exclusive recruiting chats on Tuesday night. This session featured a variety of special guests, including Mike Yancich, D.J. Woods, A.J. Alexander, Kevin Newsome and Tate Forcier. Get a recap of the chat and what these players had to say about their recruitment and PSU right here.

Mike Yancich: Yancich was the first guest and answered a variet of questions from fans. He said he picked PSU in the end because it's Linebacker U and it's a great school and a great program. He also said Andrew Sweat is solid to OShio State and Brandon Beachum is the toughest guy he went against on the camp circuit.

He stated that he held the Pennsylvania state record with a 550-pound dead-lift as a sophomore in high school. Yancich will not be playing other sports in high school to close out his senior year, but rather is focused on getting faster and stronger before he gets on campus. He speaks with PSU recruits Michael Mauti and Michael Zordich from time to time.

He plans on enrolling at PSU this coming summer. He talked a bit about the current linebackers at PSU and picked Dan Connor to win the Butkus and Darren McFadden to win the Heisman. He indicated that he was recruited by PSU as a linebacker, but would play anywhere that gets him on the field.

D.J. Woods: Woods is an extremely nice guy who kept up with the fast pace of the chat and answered almost every question. He said PSU is recruiting him as a wideout and he is very high on PSU, but is going to take his time with the decision.

Woods talked with the fans about his decommitment from Nebraska and the teams that he is currently considering. He said his parents are pushing Penn State and West Virginia to him, leaning towards PSU.

Woods said he is considering both of those schools as well as Auburn and Mizzouri. Woods talked a lot about how much he liked Penn State, even saying that he would like to wear No. 3 at PSU. Woods said a commitment could come tomorrow or as late as mid-December, wherever he feels comfortable and and feels ready.

Kevin Newsome: Newsome stopped in briefly to chat and talked about how he likes Penn State. He also said that he had been to Virginia Tech a lot as well. Newsome indicated that he would take his time in making a decision and is just taking it in right now and will be trying to prove himself further as he gets his junior film ready and takes his show on the road at the Army All American Combine in January.

He said he loved the game-day atmosphere at PSU and he is high on both PSU and VT at this stage. He also shared his GPA and grade info which was very impressive and said he is the president of his class.

Tate Forcier: Forcier stopped into chat and said that he was interested in all schools that are recruiting him, but PSU was definitely near the top of the list. Forcier stated that he can throw the ball 68 yards in the air and is pretty accurate. He also stated that he has been described as a taller Doug Flutie.

He stated that in his last game he suffered a grade-three concussion and had to come out of the game in the third quarter. At that point in the game, Forcier had over 400 yards passing, four touchdowns, and nearly 90 yards rushing.

He said that he really likes Florida and Penn State and that Notre Dame may offer after signing day. Forcier stated that he wants to make his college decision by spring of 2008. He is high on PSU and basically said that if PSU offers, he would have them as his leader.

He plans to decide on a school very early. Reading between the lines, he seemed a little concerned that he may not be PSU's top priority with Pryor and Newsome also involved since Tate asked if PSU has offered any other Class of 2009 QBs. Also he didn't answer any questions about his feelings toward PSU if Pryor ended up committing to the Lions.

A.J. Alexander: Alexander stopped by the chat and indicated a late commitment was likely for him. He said he could even wait until signing day to commit. .He is still considering Penn State, Clemson, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.

Alexander still likes Penn State a lot, but some other schools are catching his eye as well. He signed off of the chat answering the fans' "We Are" with a "Penn State!"
