Recruiting Report

Fight On State Recruiting Analyst Cory James has been providing regular in-depth updates on Penn State's recruiting targets. Where does D'Anton Lynn stand with Norwood's departure? What happened with D.J. Woods? Get answers right here.

D'Anton Lynn: The Texas defensive back is still committed to Penn State as of this report, however, how will the departure of Brian Norwood to Baylor impact Lynn's commitment?

I spoke with Lynn on Monday evening. Lynn indicated that he is unsure yet if he will be visiting other schools. He said that he spoke with Coach McQueary on Sunday and that some other schools have been by his high school this past week.

Coach McQueary and Coach Buggs are visiting Lynn on Tuesday to talk to him about the secondary situation at PSU in an attempt to firm up his commitment. Lynn indicated Coach Bradley will be going down for a visit next week as well.

My guess is that unless the PSU coaches say something that Lynn doesn't want to hear, he will be sticking with his commitment. The PSU staff certainly will be doing just about all that it takes to keep Lynn. However, at this time, it doesnt seem like Joe Paterno will be booking any flights to Texas.

As an aside, the only players that Lynn has talked to since Norwood's departure are D.J. Woods and Nittany Lion Chaz Powell.

D.J. Woods: Speaking of Woods, many fans are wondering what happened with Woods regarding his committment to West Virginia earlier this week.

I spoke to Woods about this and he told me that originally he wanted to visit Penn State this past weekend. As we broke last week, Woods contacted Jay Paterno in an attempt to set up a visit, but did not receive a call back. So, instead of Penn State, he set up the visit to WVU. Woods loved the visit, so he committed.

Woods said that if he would have visited PSU this weekend he would have considered them more for sure, however he is unsure if he would have committed. Regardless, Woods is now done with his visits and is sold on WVU. So, Woods wasn't necessarily in the bag for the Lions, however he wouldn't have committed to WVU this weekend if PSU had set up the visit. Thats how it all shakes down.

Kevin Newsome: According to sources around Virginia Tech I have spoken with, Newsome is expected to favor Penn State over the Hokies once he receives his Penn State offer.

This is assuming Penn State does not land Terrelle Pryor. If that in fact happens, it is expected to impact Newsome's decision.

Stay tuned to for continuing in-depth coverage of Penn State football and recruiting.
