Following Father's Footsteps?

Brent Wise plays several positions for the number one ranked team in Pennsylvania. He excels on both sides of the ball and has the Nittany Lion coaching staff very interested.

Name: Brent Wise
Position: WR, DB
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 190 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.4
Bench Press: 290 pounds
School: Central Dauphin SHS, Harrisburg, PA

Brent starts at wide-receiver and cornerback and even plays some tailback for Central Dauphin, the number one ranked team in the state.  The Rams are currently 10-0 and will face Spring Grove, a team which features Penn State verbal John Shaw, in a first-round playoff game tonight.

"I have 28 receptions for a little over 900 yards," Brent said.  "I average 33.4 yards per catch.  I have around 1,300 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns.  On defense, I have 3 interceptions, but I don't know how many tackles.

"I'm being recruited as a defensive back and a wide-receiver.  It all depends on the school.

"Connecticut has offered and Penn said they want me to play there and would support me getting in and everything.  They help you as far as getting admitted to the school and try to get you as much financial aid as possible, so that's always an option.

"Penn State is showing a lot of interest.  I'm taking an official visit up there.  Virginia and Vanderbilt are interested too."

Penn State and Virginia are Brent's two favorites at this point.

"Penn State's been calling once a week and so has Virginia.  Virginia is mostly recruiting me as a wide-receiver and Penn State likes me at both."

At which position in the defensive backfield is Penn State considering him to play?

"Safety probably.  I started the year playing free safety, but we needed some help at corner, so they thought it would be better to move me over there.  I like corner and I think I'm a pretty good corner, but I think I'm a good safety too.  I can play it pretty well.

"Penn State is really interested.  They don't have as many scholarships to offer this year, so they're being real selective.  I talked to Coach Joe Paterno and he said they're really interested and I've been talking to Coach Johnson who's recruiting me.  They're just continuing the process and eliminating people.  I think Coach Johnson is planning to come up here sometime and I'm going to take an official there.  I really think they're pretty interested and Virginia is the same way basically."

How did he get Penn State's attention?

"I sent out film and then we were at the 7-on-7 camp at Penn State and some of the coaches got a chance to see me then.  Coach Ganter, Coach Johnson and Coach Anderson saw me there.  After that, they took me and Ardon [Bransford] around and showed us some things.

"I was at Penn State for the Central Florida and Nebraska games and I'm going to the Virginia game on Saturday.

"The Nebraska game was crazy.  Getting to see a game in that atmosphere was fun.  I talked to Coach Paterno on the sidelines before the game.  It was pretty neat.

"They said they like me on offense and they really need people to play defensive back and they like what I do there, so they also think they could use me there.

"The last time I talked to Coach Johnson, he said that he's been given specific instructions from Coach Paterno as far as recruiting me and that they're really interested.  I think something will happen soon."

Brent's father, Tom Wise, lettered for Penn State in 1978, 79 and 80.

"He was a defensive back too, a corner.  They switched him to wide-receiver his senior year, so he started at wideout his last year.  He was a state track champion in high school and he's a track coach now."

Is it safe to say Brent grew up as a fan of Penn State?

"Yeah, it's in my blood."

His official visit to Penn State is scheduled for January 17.  He also has official visits set up to UConn and Penn and hopes to schedule officials to Virginia and Vanderbilt soon.

He has already visited all of his favorites unofficially with the exception of Vanderbilt.

"I've visited UConn and Penn and I went to camp at Virginia for two days and they got a chance to see me down there.  They said they liked what they saw."
