FOS Recruiting Chat Recap

With recruiting picking up in recent days for the Nittany Lions Cory James hosted another edition of his FOS Recruiting Chat giving exclusive updates on prospects like Stephen Morris, Abdul Smith, Dan Mason, Justin Brown and a slew of others.

As Penn State doubled the size of their Class of 2009 this past weekend with three additional pledges, the Nittany Lions are in hot pursuit of several other prospects. Cory feels that the Class of 2009 will have up to four "Aaron Maybin-type" players in it. Here is an update on a variety of players PSU is looking to add to their class:

Stephon Morris: Morris was on the phone with Cory during the chat session last night and had to get off to respond to a text message from Darrell Givens, one of the new PSU pledges, who was talking up the Nittany Lions.

Stephon Morris

Derrick Thomas, a recent PSU pledge and Morris' teammate at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, has also been in Morris' ear about Penn State. Cory has a strong feeling that Morris will end up in Blue and White.

Devon Smith: Smith, another Roosevelt player, is a running back who is also being recruited by PSU, but has not received an offer as of yet.

Abdul Smith: Smith is up to 15 offers with Aubrun, Wisconsin and NC State joining the list recently. Smith says he is waiting until this summer to narrow his list down and take official visits to his favorites. Smith could play WR at Penn State, but PSU likes him at DB first and foremost.

Abdul Smith

Jaleel Clark: Cory has a strong feeling the four-star Parkland wideout will be the next one to commit to Penn State's Class of 2009.

Travis Hawkins: Hawkins is a "stud" and from what Cory has seen of him he feels Hawkins can play on either side of the ball at the net level. He was talking a lot to the PSU commits recently.

Travis Hawkins

Myles Gibbon: Cory really likes what he saw from Gibbon at this past weekend's Nike camp. Gibbon is from Vanier College (north of Montreal). The PSU coaches just found out about him, so it will be interesting to see how they proceed with him.

Tate Forcier: Forcier is still a possibility at PSU, but he continues to see a lot of attention nationally.

Andrew Shoop: The Danville, Pa. QB is also a possibility for PSU. As a junior, Shoop threw for 2585 yards, 28 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He broke school records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a game with a 376-yard, six touchdown performance against Lewisburg.

Dan Mason: Had a strong showing at Nike Camp and was named the linebacker MVP of the event. Mason seems very high on Penn State at this stage.

Dan Mason

Jordan Love: Love is no where near done with the recruiting process at this point. He is expected to take his time with the process and take his visits. There is a feeling that right now Love is a PSU lean.

Glen Carson: The N.J. 'backer also seems very high Penn State at this point.

Justin Brown: Cory feels Penn State has a "good to great shot" to land Brown in this class.

Justin Brown

Cory said there are at least three San Diego, Ca. players in the Class of 2010 who PSU is keeping a close eye on. In terms of the Class of 2009, he believes the next three commitments for PSU could be Stephon Morris, Gerald Hodges and Jaleel Clark.
