SHORT REPORT: Line Gets Thinner

Thursday morning, we broke the news that Penn State redshirt freshman guard Josh Marks is considering transferring out of the program.

Now comes news that another reserve offensive lineman is being held out of preseason drills. Observers say senior tackle Nerraw McCormack has yet to participate in preseason ball after struggling in a conditioning test last week.

A junior college transfer who saw action in three games in 2007, McCormack emerged from spring practice as the second-string left tackle, behind veteran Gerald Cadogan. The staff had been considering redshirting McCormack this season.

Observers stressed that McCormack has not been dismissed from the team.

“The staff is sending a message,” one source said.

BRENNAN'S TAKE: Sounds like a certain head coach is back to laying down the law.

HARRINGTON'S TAKE: I doubt McCormack was slated to make an impact on the field in 2008. But I'm sure everyone in the program understands what happened here, and that could have a serious impact.
