Maybin, Shipley Gain More A-A Honors

Penn State sophomore defensive end and senior center named to their second All-American team this week as they both make the Football Writers' Association of America's A-A team Saturday night.

Penn State senior center A.Q. Shipley and redshirt sophomore defensive end Aaron Maybin were both first-team selections on the Walter Camp All-America team.

On Saturday evening on ABC television, both were named to the Football Writers' Association of America's All American team.

Shipley is Penn State's first All-America center since Glenn Ressler in 1964. The only other A-A center in Nittany Lion history was W.T. “Mother” Dunn in 1906.

Penn State has had much more success producing All-Americans at defensive end of late, with three men (Courtney Brown, Michael Haynes and Tamba Hali) earning the honor since 1999.

But Maybin is the first Nittany Lion sophomore to capture A-A notice since linebacker LaVar Arrington in 1998.

Penn State was on of five teams along with Alabama, Texas, Florida and USC to have two All-Americans on the FWAA A-A team.
