Get the latest on the former Penn State offensive lineman who had transferred to Pitt.

Josh Marks, a Scout four-star offensive lineman, was a member of Penn State's Class of 2007. In early August of this year Marks failed a late-summer conditioning test, according to sources close to the Penn State team.

When he was told he would not be able to participate in preseason drills, broke that the redshirt freshman opted to transfer. He ended up walking on at Pittsburgh.

According to various sources, after sitting out this past season with the Panthers under NCAA transfer rules, Marks has departed from the Pitt program. Sources conflict on the reasoning, with some pointing to alleged attitude and academic problems and others indicating a clash of personalities and disagreements between Marks and the Pitt coaching staff.

As one observer close to Marks explained, "I think he was doing pretty well [at Pitt], but things weren't totally clicking. It can be pretty challenging to balance everything — athletics and academics."

It is unclear what Marks will do next. The options appear to be returning to Pitt or transferring to an lower level.
