Did The Nittany Lions Impress?

Dorien Bryant, a highly coveted wide-receiver from New Jersey, took an official visit to Penn State this past weekend. How did it go? Is there a good chance he could end up a Nittany Lion?

Name: Dorien Bryant
Position: WR
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 175 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.3
School: Kingsway High School, Swedesboro, NJ

Dorien and his mother made the trip to Penn State this past weekend for an official visit.

"It was cool," Dorien said.  "I had fun.  I had a good time.  It was pretty informative.  I learned a couple of things I didn't know about the school and the history.

"Tamba Hali was my host.  He showed me a pretty good time.  I knew Tamba before.  When I went to Don Bosco Prep up in North Jersey, that's where I transferred from, I lived in Teaneck.  He lived right around my way."

Brandon Snow and Tim Shaw were some other PSU players with whom Dorien spent time this weekend.

"I hung out with Tim Shaw because he's Tamba's roommate.  I ended up hanging out with him even a little more than I hung out with Tamba.  Most of the guys we hung around were freshmen.

"I really like Tim.  He's a really good kid.  I like him a lot.  Personality-wise, he reminds me of me a little bit.

"We went to the basketball game which was pretty cool.  They won their first game.

"I got to hang out with Coach Paterno a little bit.  He's really a funny guy.  My mom liked his wife a lot.  My mom thinks his wife is hilarious."

The timing of Dorien's official visit to Penn State was not optimal.

"I didn't know this week was finals week there.  There were things going on and everything, but not a lot of kids were doing too much.  I got to see a little bit of how they live, but then again, it was a little different because everybody was studying for finals.  I might go back up there and just stay with Tamba unofficially.  I still had a good time, so I guess that's a plus."

Is Boston College still the team to beat?

"I don't know.  It's really close, but if I had to choose today, it would probably be BC, just because I know it so well.  I've got a long time between now and when I have to have a decision made."

It doesn't look like Bryant will make a decision in the near future.

"Probably not before the holidays.  I was thinking about it, but I don't know if that's going to be very possible."

Dorien, who already took offiicial visits to Boston College and Purdue prior to this weekend, will most likely take only one more official visit, to North Carolina State.

"I promised them I'd come down and my coach thinks I should go down.  That's where he went to school.  He's not pushing it, but he thinks I should.

"I don't think it could change my mind too much because I've been down there, but they just got all their new facilities done and they want me to come see that, so I'm going to take it.

"I don't think I'm going to take [an official to Notre Dame]."

What does he like about Boston College?

"I know a lot of kids on the team.  A lot of them are from Jersey.  I even know some that aren't from Jersey.  The coaching staff, Coach Willis, the guy that's recruiting me, I've known him since my freshman year.  He recruited me when he was at Cincinnati.

"I have a pretty good relationship with him and a lot of the coaches.  I feel really comfortable with the coaching staff."

Penn State seems to be the main competition for BC right now.

"I think with what they (PSU) are telling me about what I can do and everything, if I learn the system enough, I could start next year.

"That's something to look at.  Looking at their receivers, they don't really have a shifty-type receiver.  I think I could bring a lot of things to the whole receiving corps."
