When he announced last Wednesday at a press conference at his high school that he has chosen to play football at Penn State, he made Penn State fans real happy.
"I made myself real happy," Joel said. "It feels great."
He took official visits to Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Miami before deciding last Monday after returning from Miami to commit to Penn State. Although Joel grew up a big Penn State fan and was a regular attendee at many of Penn State's home games, the big lineman gave the other schools recruiting him serious consideration.
"That's what I said I was going to do and that's what I did.
"I just determined Penn State was the best school. I like pretty much everything. They have great football there and the team is like a family. I like my position coach, Coach Kenney, and Coach Paterno is a real good guy."
The Penn State coaching staff is excited to have Joel in the fold.
"They like my academics and the way I play on the field, my presence out there."
Holler will play the offensive tackle position at Penn State. He currently weighs 340 pounds. He will follow a recommended workout routine and plans to head to State College this summer.
With the commitments of Joel Holler and Dan Mazan in addition to Chris Auletta and Lee Lispi who chose Penn State last recruiting season but elected to grayshirt, the Nittany Lions will most likely sign only one more offensive linemen this February.
