Ricketts on Picking PSU

See what the WPIAL standout had to say about his decision to commit to the Nittany Lions. Cory James caught up with him Wednesday night.

Wexford, Pa., offensive lineman Tom Ricketts announced for Penn State Wednesday. Cory James caught up with the prospect, who is the son of the former Pitt standout of the same name.

Here is what Ricketts had to say.

On picking the Lions one day after fellow WPIAL star Miles Dieffenbach did the same:

"I committed to Penn State tonight. I had been feeling like this for about a week. The timing was kind of funny because I always figured Miles was going to Pitt and then he committed to Penn State at the same time I was ready. It was total coincidence."

Why Penn State?

"I just felt like Penn State was the right place for me. I love the coaches, the campus, the stadium, everything. It is funny because when I was little if you told me I would pick Penn State over Pitt, I would have never believed it. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do."

On how he broke the news to the Lions?

"I called Coach [Tom] Bradley and he was really excited. In the end, I am a momma's boy and I wanted to stay close to home. It was Pitt, Maryland or Penn State, and Penn State just felt right."
