PSU Opens at No. 9 in AP Poll

With the 2009 football season a mere two weeks away, the Nittany Lions make a top ten appearance in the Associated Press preseason poll, ranked No. 9 nationally.

With the season opener two weeks away, Penn State is tied with Oklahoma State at the No. 9 spot in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll.

The No. 9 ranking is Penn State's highest position since entering the 1999 season at No 3. The Lions are already ranked No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches' poll.

The Nittany Lions enter the 2009 season where they wrapped up last year, as a top 10 team. The Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC are the only conferences with multiple teams in preseason top 10 positions.

Penn State opens the season on September 5, hosting Akron at 12:00 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. The contest will air on the Big Ten Network.
