And while pre-game tailgates are part of the gridiron tradition in Happy Valley, FightOnState.com is thrilled to make the following announcement.
The Real Tailgate starts Friday night!
And it will be going down at The Real Lion's Den.
FightOnState.com is teaming with former Nittany Lion All-Big Ten tackle Keith Conlin and The Den to present the FOS Friday Night Tailgate on every Penn State home football Friday this fall.
The events get underway at 6 p.m. and will run through at least 9 p.m. Led by Conlin, who will serve as host, there will be former Nittany Lions on hand, as well as FOS staffers, select media members from the PSU football beat and, of course, dozens of folks from the FOS community.
The Den, located at 118 South Garner Street in the heart of State College, will be offering outstanding drink specials and a new menu of pub grub favorites during the Tailgates.
FOS and Conlin first teamed up on a pre-game party the night before the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles last New Year's Eve. More than 800 fans stopped by to party with former Penn State players, FOS staffers and fellow members of the Nittany Nation.
It was so well-received that we decided to bring the party to State College this season, said Conlin, a starter on the Nittany Lions' unbeaten 1994 squad. And where better to get together than The Lion's Den, a home away from home for so many of us when we were undergrads?
We've been doing informal get-togethers at The Den on PSU football Fridays for the past few years, added Fight On State editor and publisher Mark Brennan. After the success of the L.A. event with Keith and other former players before the Rose Bowl, this seemed to be the next natural next step for the FOS Community. It will be a blast.
The Den has undergone significant renovations in recent years, and now features banks of high-definition, flat-screen TVs. New this year to the venerable establishment is a menu of pub grub favorites, including a variety of sandwiches and appetizers.
But the qualities that have drawn so many customers down though the decades — a great environment in which to socialize and the best drink specials in town — remain.
Really, that's why we settled on The Den, Conlin said. We were looking for a place where former players and fans could talk Penn State and college football in a laid-back environment, but to do it without anyone having to break the bank. The Den offers the perfect combination of quality, value and environment.
There are multiple bars inside at The Den. There is also a large outdoor seating area.
The FOS Friday Football Tailgate will be held every Penn State home football Friday, and will run from 6 p.m. until at least 9 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you there!
