SYR: Report Card

Who made the grade and who could have tested better in Penn State's win over the Orange? We let you know.

Grade: We have yet to see a killer instinct on either side of the ball for Penn State.

Grade: Daryll Clark and company have established that they can chuck the pigskin. But 78 net rushing yards against a now 0-2 team does not cut it.

Grade: We know the unit came this close to a shutout. But we think it could have dropped the hammer much earlier.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Jeremy Boone was great (again). Kickoff coverage was not so great (again). We wish Collin Wagner would have gotten a couple field-goal tries, just to see if his Week 1 struggles were an aberration, but he did not.
Grade: C+

COACHING: We're putting the struggles of the ground game on the offensive linemen now. Coaches can't execute blocks for them.
Grade: B

INTANGIBLES: There was just something blah about this game. Maybe it was the gloomy weather.
Grade: C

OTHER GUY: The Orange were outmanned. But they played hard and they hit hard, and fought to the end. Nice job by first-year Syracuse coach Doug Maronne, who is already looking like a huge improvement over Greg Robinson.
Grade: C+

OFFICIALS: Next time we complain about poor officiating in the Big Ten, remind us of this game. This outfit was from the Big East.
Grade: F

CROWD: They came alive when Syracuse got near the goal line.
Grade: B
