EIU: Report Card

See who made the grade and who came up short in Penn State's win over Eastern Illinois.

OVERALL: Penn State took care of business the way everyone figured it would.
Grade: B

OFFENSE: Great numbers, sure, but in giving this grade we are taking into account the comp. We liked seeing the ball being spread around to many targets.
Grade: B

DEFENSE: Good effort. But Eastern Illinois was clearly out-classed.
Grade: B

SPECIAL TEAMS: Kudos on the blocked punt. Beyond that, mediocre as usual.
Grade: C-

COACHING: With a chance to get some key youngsters serious playing time, the staff stuck with the starters far too long. No Kevin Newsome until late in the third quarter with the lead at 45-3?
Grade: D+

INTANGIBLES: The Lions looked like a BCS team playing an FCS outfit.
Grade: B

OTHER GUY: The Panthers came out and played hard. It would have been easy just to accept the check and roll over. But the EIU kids didn't.
Grade: B

OFFICIALS: Six flags on the day. Gotta love that in this type of game.
Grade: B

CROWD: All things considered, not a bad showing.
Grade: C
