SHORT REPORT: Bowl Prep

The Nittany Lions are already preparing for their clash with LSU in Orlando. Get the latest on what is going on in our exclusive Short Report.

After the Michigan State victory, the team got the week off for Thanksgiving for some rest. "A lot of people forget these guys have played straight through the season with no byes or breaks," one observer explained. "The coaches really wanted them to take some time to rest and see their families."

When the team got back from the break, the went straight to the weight room for some conditioning sets with John Thomas.

Last Thursday saw the Nittany Lions back in action on the practice field. The session was used to get some light work in, but also used about an hour to evaluate where the redshirt freshmen are currently in terms of their speed, physique and overall progress. For more information on the reshirt freshmen check out our Redshirt Reports: Part 1 | Part 2

The squad also had practices on Friday and Saturday of this past week. There they worked some running, individual drills, 1v1 and 2v2 and Drill 6 sets. "We're working the basics since we aren't sure where we're headed yet for our bowl game," one observer said this past weekend before their Capital One Bowl destination was officially announced.

Sunday the team held its annual Senior Banquet where the players and coaches "let down their hair some" and reflect on the regular season. Among the awards handed out were:

Team MVP Award: Daryll Clark, QB
Ridge Riley Award: Sean Lee, LB
Alumni Athlete Award: Brandon Short, LB '99

Sunday was not all fun and games though, as the coaches and select players sat down and had their initial film review of LSU "to get an idea of their scheme and personnel."

This week the team is scheduled to hit the practice field on:

Thursday: Shells
Friday: Full Pads
Saturday: Full Pads

Tom Venturino, PSU's Director of Football Operations, is already down in Florida scouting practice sites and a place to stay prior to the team's arriving in Orlando. He is also working on a the team's initial practice location, which is traditionally away from the bowl site to "reduce distractions."

The team is scheduled to arrive in Florida on or about Dec 20.
