Another Top Ten Finish

For the 23rd time a Joe Paterno led team has finished ranked in the Top 10 nationally.

Penn State closed out the 2009 season with a 19-17 Capital One Bowl victory over LSU, which moved them into the Top 10 in both polls. The Lions ended up at the No. 8 spot in the Coaches' Poll and at No. 9 in the Associated Press Poll.

Amazingly, this marks the 23rd team Joe Paterno has led to a final Top 10 ranking, representing 53 percent of the teams he has coaches over his 43 year tenure as head coach.

The Big Ten ended up with a nation-leading three teams in the Top 10. Aside from PSU, the conference had Ohio State as No. 5 and Iowa at No. 7 in both polls.

Since joining Big Ten play in 1993 Penn State is 10-3 in bowl games.
