COVER BOY: Joe Paterno

College football's all-time major-college wins leader is features on the Feb. 1 cover of The Sporting News.

Joe Paterno will not only don the cover of the issue, which hits newsstands today, but also featured in a five-page article by Steve Greenberg where he discusses loyalty and longevity in college football, and also his plans for the future.

Paterno is college football's all-time leader in bowl victories with 24 and appearances with 36. Paterno's 394-129-3 record represents the most wins at the major-college level of the sport and his 75.2 winning percentage is second-best among active coaches with at least 10 years experience at the FBS level.

He has two national championships in 1982 and 1986, five unbeaten seasons (1968, 1969, 1973, 1986, 1994) and 15 seasons with 11+ victories, including three in the past five years. In fact, he is college football's all-time leader in 10-win (21 years) and 11-win seasons.

Paterno has also been honored an unprecedented five times with the AFCA Coach of the Year award.
