Price Change: WR Leaves PSU

Redshirt sophomore has been released from his scholarship with the Nittany Lions. He leaves Happy Valley having never caught a pass.

Receiver A.J. Price was considered something of a project when he signed with Penn State in February of 2008. At 6-foot-4 and 170 pounds, he clearly had to do some filling out before making an impact in Happy Valley.

But it turns out that size was not his only obstacle to success with the Nittany Lions.

Price took a redshirt in 2008 then played sparingly in his first season of eligibility last fall. He saw action in six games in 2009 but did not make a catch.

In the meantime, according to team sources, he encountered serious academic issues.

Those same sources say it all led to Price recently asking for and receiving a release from his scholarship with the Nittany Lions. It is not clear where he will end up.

Price had two catches for 26 yards in April's Blue-White Game.
