North Schuylkill OL Visits Pitt

North Schylkill High School is roughly a five hour drive from Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, yet just enough of a comfortable drive for 2012 offensive lineman Jon Green to come in and take a look.

Jon Green is a 6-3 ½, 275-pound offensive linemen for the Spartans. Green plays center, guard and defensive tackle, and has helped his team to a 2-0 start so far this season. When it comes to recruiting, Green took a pro-active approach to getting his name out there.

"I sent out 40 films, upwards of 50, to anyone from I-AA to Ivy League to I-A," Green said. "Every single school I sent film to, I got positive feedback from. I got a lot of interest from most of schools."

Though he doesn't have any offers, Green has heard from schools such as Rutgers, Virginia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Akron, Maryland and Virginia Tech. These schools have also invited him to one of their games this fall. To kickoff his tour of unofficial visits, he decided to start with Pitt.

"I really like the school and everything about Pitt," Green said after his visit. "It's a little more rural than I expected. I'm from a rural area, so I like the town set up. There's some pretty high interest in Pitt."

One of the reasons for Green's early interest, is the coaching staff. He had a chance to talk with offensive line coach Tony Wise, as well as tight ends coach Brian Angelichio, who recruits his area.

"I spoke to (Wise) for about 15 to 20 minutes," Green said. "I got to shake Coach Wannstedt's hand. I like the way he coaches. It's high-energy. He's very intense with his players. The field was really neat. It seems like it would be a good atmosphere to play in."
