Coach talks about Beaver's Rory Nicol

Rory Nicol is an outstanding tight end prospect from Beaver Area High School in Beaver, PA. Rory has eight offers to date! Nicol is quite athletic for his size, and that's proven by the fact that he runs the hurdles in track. He plays basketball as well.

So far, he's visited Pitt and West Virginia and will soon visit Ohio State. Rory will be the center of a heated recruiting battle for his services this fall.

Here's a Q&A session I had with his head coach, Jeff Beltz. We talked about Rory's vital stats, accomplishments, and where he stands right now as far as offers go.

Q: What are Rory's height, weight, and 40 time?
Beltz:
6-5, 240, and he runs a 4.8 40-yard dash.

Q: What positions does he play and how many years has he been a starter?
Beltz:
He is a two-year starter. He has started at tight end and outside linebacker (standup defensive end). Most schools are recruiting him as a tight end.

Q: What are his stats from his junior season?
Beltz:
He has 12 catches for 168 yards and 1 TD. On defense, he totaled 68 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 TD return.

Q: What are his lifting stats?
Beltz:
He has benched pressed 270 pounds and squatted 420 pounds.

Q: Which schools have offered him and does he have any favorites at this time?
Beltz:
Syracuse, Pitt, Toledo, West Virginia, Akron, Maryland, Duke, and North Carolina have all offered. At this point he doesn't have a favorite.

Q: What awards has he been selected for?
Beltz:
He was named 3rd team All-State by PA Football News at outside linebacker. He was also named 1st team All-Conference - both sides of the football. Rory helped lead the team to a 10-2 record last season and the WPIAL playoff semi-finals.

Q: Duke has offered, so the grades must be good!
Beltz:
Yes, he has a 3.4 GPA and a 1020 SAT score already.

Thanks again to Beaver Area High School head coach Jeff Beltz, and best of luck in the upcoming football season.
