Williams Starting To Take Visits

Homestead (PA) Steel Valley running back's invite list grows, as he looks to lock up first offer. As his early senior-year highlight film has gotten out, he has seen an increase in his interest.

The latest school to jump in the mix for Steel Valley running back Delrece Williams is Kent State. Williams had heard from their coaching staff for awhile. It was only a matter of when he would be able to get up for a game. Saturday, he will get that chance.

"I'm going up to Kent State Saturday, they sent me tickets," Williams said. "They seem to really like me. I'm excited to meet the coaching staff. (Steel Valley head) Coach (Rod Steele) is going to send them film."

Kent State has former WPIAL standouts Eugene Jarvis, Leon Green and Dana Brown--all of him are close friends of Williams.

He has also been to a couple of games at Pitt, the hometown school. Most recently, he was at the Pitt-Miami game.

"I went down to the Miami game, and it was great," Williams said. "It was fun seeing the Pitt guys play a different team. I never saw them play Miami before. Even thought they lost, I really enjoyed being there because of the whole environment."

Another Big East school that has shown him some interest is UConn. With the Huskies, it's a matter of when he'll be able to get up there. An unofficial visit is in the works.

"I talked to their coach as well, (defensive coordinator) Coach Todd (Orlando)," Williams said. "They text my coach a lot. From what I hear from my coach, they are really interested. That's a place I am really looking forward to getting to."

Williams is currently third in the WPIAL in rushing, with 1,009 yards on 108 carries, and 10 touchdowns. He is still getting looks as a defensive back, despite playing defense sparingly--due to the number of carries he's had on offense.

His Steel Valley team takes on Washington High this Friday night. A win for the Ironmen puts them in the playoffs.
