Pitt Basketball Tabbed Preseason Favorite

Panthers receive 12 of 16 first-place votes in the preseason Big East coaches poll.

Pitt was the top choice to win the Big East this year, at the Big East media day in New York City. The Panthers finished with 12 first-place votes, joining their football counterparts as the choice to win the regular season title. Only three other teams--Villanova, Syracuse and St. John‘s--received first-place votes.

Pitt returns four starters from the 2009-10 team which finished 25-9 last year, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Four starters return this year, including Ashton Gibbs (15.7), Brad Wanamaker (12.3 ppg, 4.7 apg), Gary McGhee (6.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and Nasir Robinson (6.6 ppg, 5.6 ppg).
