It's not so tough for Zach Myers to get out to games when there's a number of schools within a four- or five-hour drive. Myers has been to games at Michigan, Northwestern and Cincinnati so far this fall, and will be at Kentucky this coming weekend. This past Saturday, he took a trip to Pittsburgh to watch the Panthers take on Rutgers.
"It was great, I had a great time," Myers said. "I liked Heinz Field a lot. It has a great atmosphere. I liked how the players handled themselves (before the game). I can see they're ready to play. The crowd has a lot to do with it. You can tell this place is going to be rocking."
Myers' recruiting coach is linebackers coach Bernard Clark, but he also had a chance to speak with running backs coach David Walker, who has also recruited Ohio in his time at Pitt.
"I talked to (Walker)," Myers said. "Coach Clark, he is up in the press box, so I didn't see him before the game. I went into the locker room after the game and talked to him. I like them a lot. They're cool guys, very respectful."
Myers has been a varsity starter since his freshman year, where he earned all-conference honors in Division I, which is Ohio‘s largest classification. During his freshman and sophomore years, he bounced between tackle and guard. Now, Myers seems settled at left guard. He played left tackle for one game this year, filling in for an injured teammate. As a guard, he doesn't pull all the time, but he relishes the opportunity because it increases the amount of physical contact he will face.
"I stay on left side, we have five or six different pulling plays," Myers said. "I wouldn't say I pull all the time; somewhat. A lot of times (the offense) is straight up, or doubling up on a linebacker. I love the physical aspect. I'm not trying to brag, but if you watch my tape, I play nasty. I love getting after it."
As for Pitt, Myers said he wouldn't mind hearing more from the Panthers, as his recruiting goes on.
"Yeah, I would hope so," Myers said. "I get mail on a regular basis. I've been invited to four or five of their games. I was only able to make it to that one. I'm trying to hit all the schools that are recruiting me. I think if they're going to recruit me, I'm going to show interest.
"I felt (Pitt) played well. I hadn't watched Pitt a lot up until that point. They took it to Rutgers, for sure."
