Breaking News - Howland Headed West

Ben Howland, coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers for the past 4 seasons, will be announced as the new basketball coach of UCLA as early as tomorrow.

Howland, 45, has apparently agreed to the financial terms of the deal. The rest of the deal could be solidified as early as tonight.

It's also been learned that Howland ended his relationship with his Pittsburgh attorney, Jim Zeszutek, yesterday. He is now represented by Jordan Bazant of New York, who worked out the details of Howland's contract with UCLA.

University of Pittsburgh officials had raised their offer to $1.1 million per year for the duration of Howland's contract in an attempt to retain his services.

Adidas sportswear, which has contracts with both schools, will pay at least a portion of Howland's $750,000 buyout clause.

Howland's 4 years at Pitt have seen him take the program from the bottom in terms of talent and national respect and transform it into the current Big East powerhouse. His record of 89 - 30 is the best in a 4-year span for the program.
