Rowell will honor Pledge

In terms of star rankings, Artie Rowell may not be the biggest recruit that Pittsburgh has land, but in terms of need he may be.

Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin offensive guard Artie Rowell took the dismissal of Pittsburgh head coach Dave Wannstedt and his staff to heart. Rowell would not talk to the media for the past few weeks while he contemplated his future. Tonight, Rowell issued a statement.

"In regards to recent recruiting activity I am fully committed to Pittsburgh." Rowell said. "I was very sad to see Coach (Dave) Wannstedt and his staff leave as I have developed a great relationship with them over the past two years.

"I spoke with new Head Coach (Mike) Haywood on Sunday and I was very impressed with his introduction of himself," Rowell continued. "I am going to take my official visit January 14th. In that visit, I hope to further my relationship with Coach Haywood and I look forward to meeting his staff."

Rowell will participate in the inaugural Chesapeake Bowl in Maryland at the end of the month. Pittsburgh struggled in the interior line this season and Rowell is expected to add immediate depth at guard or center.
