Nova Sets Visits

A few administrators in the Pitt football office, likely to remain on with the new staff, began reaching out to some of its initial 2011 commits.

Despite a last-minute effort to keep things going with Pitt, Gary Nova has basically said ‘thanks, but no thanks,' as he will continue to move on in his recruiting process. A number of Pitt staffers on the administrative side started reaching out to a number of prospects to see if there's still an outside chance of a visit.

Even though Gary Nova's relationship with Pitt is a positive one, he maintains that he will move on and pursue other schools.

"Yeah, (assistant director of football operations) Matt Dudek called me," Nova said. "I had a great relationship with him. He called me and wanted to know what my status was. I told him it's too late now, otherwise I wouldn't be setting up these official visits with other schools."

Nova has set three official visits.

"I have one set for Rutgers on the twenty-first (of January)," Nova said. "I'm probably going to Virginia on the twenty-eighth, and I'm going to try and set one up at Miami."

Interestingly, former Pitt offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. was hired at Rutgers on Monday, to fill that same role for the Scarlet Knights. He was instrumental in Nova's commitment to Pitt in May, and he could be instrumental with Nova's recruitment to Rutgers.
