Simpson Checks On Pitt

Penn-Trafford (PA) running back Manny Simpson has more than a few visits planned for the spring.

Penn-Trafford (PA) running back Manny Simpson initially had contact from Dave Wannstedt's staff at Pitt. Since Todd Graham's staff was hired in January, Graham and company and continued building a relationship with Simpson.

"As close as I was (with the previous staff), they are starting to come on," Simpson added.

Thursday, Simpson went down to watch Pitt hold its fifth practice of the spring.

"It was good," Simpson said. "Coach Graham really gets into it. It's definitely different from a high school practice. I wasn't used to seeing it, but you get to see how strict they are going to be about being on time to practice, and things like that. I have talked with (defensive backs) coach (Tony) Gibson and (assistant director of football operations) Matt Dudek."

Simpson was also invited to Pitt's junior day earlier this month. He did take an unofficial visit to Pitt back in January for the Pitt basketball game with Syracuse, in which a large number of the top WPIAL prospects for 2011 and 2012 were in attendance. Simpson was also at a Kent State junior day this offseason.

Simpson has another unofficial visit set up, as well as an additional visit to Pitt later this spring. Though he doesn't have a Pitt offer yet, he is definitely a prospect worth keeping an eye on. As a junior in 2010, Simpson rushed for 1,235 yards and 13 touchdowns.

"I haven't been to Pitt for any (positional) meetings yet, but I was invited to tour the campus in two weeks," Simpson said. "I've also been invited to Michigan State's junior day on April 15; them and Cincinnati."
