Martinelli Gets Another Look At Pitt

One of the top linemen in the WPIAL, Domenic Martinelli doubles as a football and hockey standout for Montour.

Montour was well represented at Pitt's spring practice last Saturday. Junior quarterback Dillon Buechel and offensive lineman Domenic Martinelli were just two of the Montour standouts at Pitt's practice. Martinelli has heard quite a bit from the Pitt coaching staff. Saturday gave him his first opportunity to see Pitt running its up-tempo practice.

"Just pretty much overall," Martinelli said, when asked about his favorite part of the practice. "Every practice starts out with the same stretching, but I got to see a little bit of their drills. They get right into it with the one-on-ones. I liked it."

More importantly, for his sake, he got a better idea of where the Panthers stand in terms of an offer. He met with offensive line coach Spencer Leftwich, and also chatted with defensive backs coach Tony Gibson, who recruits western Pennsylvania.

"(Leftwich) just talked to me," Martinelli. "He said they're pretty interested in me. He said they want me to come down in May, and they're going to decide whether they're going to offer me or not."

Overall, Martinelli is impressed with the contact he's received from the new Pitt coaching staff.

"I actually really like that about them, the new coaching staff," Martinelli added.

He's unsure if he will get back for the spring game next week, but in the meantime will also try to get to Toledo and Syracuse before the spring is done.
