It's a busy spring for Bloomsburg (PA) quarterback Blake Rankin. Rankin was in Pittsburgh this past weekend for the Badger Sports New Level Athletics 7-on-7 passing tournament. While he was there, he also had a chance to watch Pitt practice. The Panthers are one of the teams eyeing him.
"It was pretty intense, it was good," Rankin said of the practice. "They have a new offense. I got to see the way the coaches coach. It was pretty cool. I talk to Coach Dodge and Coach Graham. They said they're going to wait to make an offer this spring, at the end of the spring or early summer."
Between getting ready for this 7-on-7, Rankin budgets his time so that he can also take some other unofficial visits. He's also preparing for the upcoming Elite 11 at Penn State in two weeks.
"It was tough, but I enjoy it," Rankin said of his spring schedule. "I really enjoy getting around to other places. This week I'm going to Michigan State. I'm going back to Penn State. I've been throwing every week (in preparation for the Elite 11). I've been throwing three times a week."
He also has a few other visits planned, and he's also started thinking about which prospect camps he'll be at this summer.
The 7-on-7 he was at this past weekend works well with everything else, preparing him for prospect camps at some schools he hopes to attract some offers from, in addition to helping him prepare for his senior season.
"It's good to get to throw in the spring, everyone (at the 7-on-7) is talented," Rankin said. "We haven't practiced at all. We just started playing. We're not doing bad."
Rankin threw for over 1,600 yards, 17 touchdowns with just three interceptions as a junior. He rushed for another 981 yards on the ground with 16 touchdowns.
