A number of schools have been flocking to Patterson, Louisiana to get a glimpse of 5-10, 175-pound receiver Jaydrick Declouet.Pitt was one of those schools, as the Panthers recently gave Declouet a verbal offer.
"They offered me (Wednesday) at spring practice," Declouet said. "I've been talking with (receivers) coach (Mike) Norvell a couple of times. At first, they wanted me to come down there for camp. Then they had heard my ACT score, so they just came down for spring practice and offered me."
Declouet is pretty interested in the Panthers. He has never been to Pittsburgh before, but that will all change after the Pitt coaching staff invested a trip to go see him.
"Yes, I'm going (to Pittsburgh) in the summer," Declouet said. "I haven't been up there. I'm looking forward to it."
Some of the other schools that have been by Patterson this spring include Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue—all new schools that are in on Declouet as well. He's also heard from Tennessee, Texas A&M, Houston, Louisiana, Memphis in addition to Pitt. Declouet will wrap up spring drills over the next week and a half, which concludes with an intrasquad scrimmage.
"We go for three and a half weeks," Declouet said. "We'll finish up this week, then we have the rest of next week, and that's it. We used to play other teams (at the end of spring drills), but now we play against ourselves."
Declouet is also a star centerfielder for Patterson's baseball team, where he's a threat as a base-stealer. He earned all-district honors in both football and baseball this past year. In football this past season, he finished with over 70 receptions for 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff return for a touchdown. Declouet also earned all-state honors this past season for football.
