Pitt Announces Some Non-Conference Games

Pitt will make a return trip to Tennessee on December 3 for the 2011 Big East/SEC Basketball Challenge. The Panthers will also play at Philadelphia's legendary Palestra in November.

Pitt's full basketball schedule won't be announced for awhile, but the Panthers did announce a few of its non-conference games for the 2011-12 season.

Pitt will once again take place in the Big East/SEC Basketball Challenge. The Panthers will once again face Tennessee. This time, the game will be held in Knoxville, and will take place on December 3. The Panthers last visited Knoxville on December 6, 1998, a 56-53 loss. All games of the Big East/SEC Basketball Challenge will be held at on-campus venues this season.

Among some of the other matchups in this year's Challenge include St. John's at Kentucky, Providence at South Carolina, Georgetown at Alabama, Mississippi at DePaul. Those games will take place on December 1. Another four games will take place on December 2, which include Cincinnati at Georgia, Florida at Syracuse, Auburn at Seton Hall and Vanderbilt at Louisville.

December 3 games in addition to Pitt-Tennessee include Arkansas at UConn, LSU at Rutgers and West Virginia at Mississippi State.

Pitt will also take place in the fifth annual Philly HoopGroup Classic. Pitt will have three preliminary games of this tournament which will take place at the Petersen Events Center, sometime between November 13 and November 23. There will be only one final game on Friday November 25, which will be held at The Palestra in Philadelphia. In addition to Pitt, Penn, James Madison, LaSalle, Rider and Robert Morris will take part in this tournament.
