Columbus Nike Camp Primer: Pitt Prospects

Pitt's recruiting efforts in Ohio will be on display at this weekend's Nike Camp in Columbus.

QUARTERBACKS
Several of Ohio's top quarterbacks will be in attendance for the Elite 11 and Nike Camp in Columbus this weekend. One of them is North Canton Hoover's Austin Appleby, who has some Pitt interest.

Appleby was at Pitt's junior day in March, and he also came in for the spring game last month. At 6-5, 225 pounds, Appleby threw for over 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns on his way to all-northeast Ohio honorable mention honors, and all-county honors as well.

Appleby holds seven offers, and has had Pitt coaches come by his school this spring.

RUNNING BACK
Austintown Fitch running back William Mahone will be there. Pitt is one of his many offers, an offer total that has reached double-digits. Mahone was at the Pitt spring game, and also came in for a spring practice. Mahone rushed for 700 yards as a junior, and added another 200 yards receiving.

Montour running back Julian Durden is also expected to be in Columbus today. Pitt is Durden's only offer. He helped the Spartans to the WPIAL Class AAA title game, rushing for over 1,800 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Lakeith Walls, a 6-3, 200-pound running back out of Cleveland (OH) James Ford Rhodes High School is also expected to be there. Walls picked up a Pitt offer this week.

WIDE RECEIVER
Two of Pitt's biggest targets will be in attendance in Columbus. In addition to four-star receiver Dwayne Stanford is pushing 20 offers. Chris Davis and Demetrious Davis are expected to be there. Both players have been to Pitt for junior day, for the spring game and also came in for a spring practice.

Even though they both have added offers every week—a combined a 40 offers between the two of them—both have Pitt among their top schools.

DEFENSE
Defensive tackle Danny O'Brien, out of Michigan, has to be one of the favorites to take home Defensive Line MVP honors. O'Brien has a Pitt offer. He only visited Michigan State this spring, but is being recruited by Pitt assistant Tony Dews.

Also in attendance will be Cleveland (OH) St. Edward linebacker Darryl Render, who picked up a Pitt offer after coming in for the spring game. Render holds eight offers.

Another prospect to keep an eye on will be Trotwood Madison (OH) safety Bam Bradley. Bradley's brother Nicholas Grigsby signed with Pitt's 2011 class.

A pair of Glenville (OH) defensive backs will be in Columbus. De'van Bogard, a safety prospect, and cornerback V'Angelo Bentley were both at the Pitt junior day in March. Bentley is currently the top cornerback on Pitt's board.
