Pittsburgh Makes It 'Pick Six' For Batiste

Pitt has offered 19 prospects in Louisiana, with 14 of them uncommitted.

Lutcher (LA) cornerback Jordan Batiste has been hearing from the new Pitt coaching staff for some time now. That's what made it really special, when the Pitt coaching staff called his high school coach to inform him they were going to verbally offer him. Batiste and high school teammate Daniel Taylor now both have Pitt offers.

"The thing with Pittsburgh, is that they were coming at me for some time," Batiste said. "I got an offer from them Friday."

Pitt receivers coach Mike Norvell has been recruiting Louisiana, even going back to his days as an assistant at Tulsa. Batiste said he was surprised to know that Norvell has been keeping an eye on Batiste the last couple of years. He cites Norvell as a factor in why he's interested in Pitt.

"I really like coach Norvell," Batiste said. "He's been watching me since ninth grade. I didn't know that. He watched me grow, and he's been waiting for a chance to offer me."

Batiste said the biggest factor for Pitt giving him the offer now, was simply watching his film as part of the May evaluation process.

"When they watched my film, they put my film on first," Batiste said. "(Norvell) showed my video to all the defensive coaches, and when they saw it, they said, ‘We gotta get him,' He said that made his day, and it definitely made my day."

When you ask Batiste about what he knows of the Pitt program, or what his impression is, you get a glimpse of the things Norvell and the other assistants are trying to sell on Pitt.

"Well, the program is good," Batiste said. "They play good football up there. They have nine national championships."

Batiste has also decided that he and Taylor, his teammate, will be taking an official visit up to Pittsburgh this fall.

"Yeah, I'm going to be up there," Batiste said. "Me and Daniel Taylor; we both like the school a lot, and we'll probably take that official visit together."
