Lovejoy (GA) cornerback Rico McWilliams is pushing close to 20 offers, and he's got them from all parts of the country. SEC schools such as Arkansas and South Carolina, ACC schools such as North Carolina State and Virginia, and Big East schools like Pittsburgh and South Florida are just a few of the schools who have taken notice.
With a heavy amount of interest, and new schools such as Ole Miss and Illinois coming in just this week, McWilliams is able to take it all in stride. The 6-0, 171-pound cornerback is in a rigorous offseason conditioning program that keeps him humble, and focused on the real task at hand.
"We have 7-on-7 football every Tuesday at our school, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday," McWilliams said. "Then, we condition from 9:30 to 11 in the mornings, and 6:30 to 8:30 in the afternoons."
This goes on throughout the whole summer. It might make it tough when you throw in the heavy interest that McWilliams has received, but he feels the routine has prepared him to play well, and eventually get this kind of interest.
"It just gets you better," McWilliams adds. "It helps me get better each week. Plus, you're doing this in the heat. When the season time comes, we play our games at night. It helps out with that."
Pitt was one of McWIlliams' recent offers. The Pitt coaching staff saw his film and decided to offer him. He doesn't know too much about the program, but is looking forward to learning more about the new coaching staff and the history of the program.
"I hear from their coaches once a week," McWilliams said. "It's going real good. I'm getting to know more about Pittsburgh. I really don't know too much about them, but I do know they've had a very good corner in Darrelle Revis."
Though McWilliams says all schools are even, Pittsburgh is a place he would like to travel to for a visit at some point—possibly as early as this summer. He is hoping to take an unofficial visit to South Carolina later this week.
"I'd like to visit Pittsburgh," McWilliams said. "I talked to my mom and dad about it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go."
McWilliams earned all-conference and all-region honors as a junior last season; one for offense, and one for defense. He finished with six touchdowns on defense and 35 tackles on defense. He also had two interceptions and three forced fumbles.
